Whistler Village Beer Fest celebrates five years

Whistler Village is obviously a great spot for some pints of craft beer après ski, but it’s a pretty fantastic place even when there’s no snow on the mountains. The Whistler Village Beer Fest takes place this Thursday to Sunday (Sept. 13-17), with the main event running Saturday and Sunday, and you’re not going to miss the snow at all.

More than 60 breweries and cideries will be taking part, and if previous years are any indication, it’s going to be a whole lot of fun. It’s the fifth anniversary of the beer fest this year, so to celebrate, all Saturday passes to the main event are good for admission on Sunday, too. The party takes place in the heart of the village at the Whistler Olympic Plaza with more than 120 beers and ciders to sample.

The Growler will be there too! Come by our booth for free high fives and take part in the Growler Challenge and you could win some super cool prizes.

Aside from the main event, there’s plenty of other beer-related activities happening in the village this weekend, with cask events, comedy keggers and even beer yoga (this is Whistler, after all).

For more info and tickets, visit the event website here.

And while you’re up in Whistler, be sure to check out its three breweries: Whistler Brewing (naturally), Coast Mountain Brewing, and BrewHouse High Mountain Brewing Co.

Trading Post teams up with Vij

Years ago when Trading Post brewer Tony Dewald was at Storm Brewing, he worked with legendary restaurateur Vikram Vij to supply Vij’s marquee Vancouver restaurant with local craft beer.

The pair has teamed up once again with Trading Post and Vij collaborating on a beer designed to pair with Indian cuisine and other exotic foods heavy in spices and aromatic flavours.

The result is Vikram’s Weissen. Brewed with Saaz hops, coriander, orange and lots of love, it has an ABV of 5%, 18 IBUs, and comes in a 500mL stubby bottle.

“I’ve been wanting to create something very special with a local brewery for some time now, and along with the team at Trading Post, we’ve created a beer that is a great partner to any dish, but especially to a fantastic curry!” says Vij.

The beer is available exclusively at Trading Post Brewing and Vij’s South Surrey restaurant, My Shanti.

Dageraad gives birth to twin beers

Dageraad Brewing owner/brewer Ben Coli is celebrating the first birthday of his twin children by releasing a pair of feisty, happy little beers named after each of them. Oscar is a Belgian-style pale ale (5% ABV), while Louise is a Belgian blonde ale (6.5% ABV) and both are brewed with New-World hops.

“They’re slightly lower-alcohol versions of the first two beers we brewed, Amber and Blonde, but they’re made with American hops, so they’re a bit quirky and different,” says Coli.

Dageraad is hosting a party this Tuesday, Sept. 19 to celebrate the release of the beers with tacos, live jazz, and lots of delicious beer. Things kick off at 4pm and go until 10pm.
